Artist Profile
David Chen
David
was born in Nanjing, China in 1961. He studied at Nanjing
College of Art and Nanjing Teachers University from 1981 —
1988. He holds a Bachelor and a Masters degree in Fine Arts.
He is also a trained art teacher. In late 1988 he was art
editor of the People’s Fine Art Publishing House in Beijing.
The political climate in China of 1989 put his art career
into jeopardy. After that uncertain and difficult time, his
art began to flourish again and David was included as one of
‘100 representatives of Chinese Artists” on a worldwide
travelling exhibition in 1991. In 1992 he won the ‘Silver
Hawk Award’ at the Fourth International Art Contest in Nice,
France, prior to David coming to Australia to live. In 1993
David was invited as one of ‘10 contemporary Chinese
watercolour painters’ to exhibit in Hong Kong. David’s
paintings have been exhibited in the National Gallery of
Victoria and his works are held in private and corporate
collections worldwide.
